The Hows of Vampirism
Important Ages
- Stay away from sunlight. It will burst you into flames. They are indeed creatures of the night, or at least the indoors.
- Stakes are deadly. However, they help humans very little. In the time it takes to pull out a wooden stake, you've got them cornered. Beware when fighting other vamps, though. This could be your downfall!
- Holy Water and crosses? Nope. They don't do a thing---it was something that was made up during the Middle Ages to protect vampires as they went through a mass purging of the people. It got many off the hook, but many more were still burned.
- Garlic burns. It doesn't kill. Actually, its quite handy, if you can take the pain. Many vamps use it to raise their body temperature to normal so they aren't caught for being a monster. And you don't have to worry about the smell, either. You're vampiric scent completely masks it.
- Yes, there are reflections.
- There are fangs as well. However, they can be masked and hidden to prevent exposure.
- There are perks to drinking human blood. While it doesn't make you stronger, if you do drink human blood, your hair will continue to keep growing. While that does seem rather unimportant, that means you can change your hairstyle with the times and not have to worry about being able to change it back. Oh, and it is also much more filling. But that went without saying, yes?
- The older you are, the stronger you are. You grow in strength exponentially as you get older. However, as the years pass, the rate you get stronger and faster slows.
Important Ages
- From the date of your turning until the time you're 10 years old, you are considered a newborn, and then a yearling. You reek of lavender and chamomile to other vamps age 10 and older, but to the humans it's very subtle. It's actually an advantage for you. Until you learn the ways of your vampiric wiles and charm, it helps calm prey to secure you a meal.
- After age 10, you are what they call a "mature" vampire. Your lavender and chamomile scent goes away and is replaced with a fragrance of lilies.
- At age 50, you can finally smell other vamps' ages. Until then you smell generically, knowing merely who is older, or younger than you.
- At 250, a special talent is acquired that makes you all the more dangerous. A shape-shifting ability is inherited, and you can turn into a wolf. Now you know where all those rumors of werewolves came from! You keep your same strength and speed, but its easier to rip up a vampire in this form than it is in your other.
